Product Advantages
There is a substantial amount of industry research that reflects a consistently increasing amount storage capacity needed to fulfill the requirements of users (see the table below). Keep in mind that an Exabyte is 1,000 Petabytes, which is made up of 1,000,000 Terabytes, which in turn is 1,000,000,000 Gigabytes. This is a huge storage requirement!

Furthermore, as internet speeds increase, so does the amount of information that one can download and store. Many customers who maintain large quantities of digital music, video media and the like are going to require not only storage, but a sharing feature as well.
Digi-Data believes that these customers will look to consolidate multiple online services into a single, simple, cost-effective product. Digi-Data’s online backup and sharing product is comprised of two separate utilities: A backup application, and a file storage and sharing utility. The backup application runs on the user’s computer and pushes data to the vault. The online utility offers a backup target, and provides an interface similar to Internet Explorer, to store, organize, and share files with business or personal contacts.
Your customer’s data is secure and private.
To assure privacy of data in transit, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology is implemented. To secure data at rest, the vault is designed as a large object-store, replacing file names in the vault in favor of a numerical handle (a variant of the content addressable storage methodology). Files are unrecognizable in the vault and cannot be located without going through security layers.
Maintaining synchronized copies is easy and less time consuming.
The backup application is downloaded when the customer signs-up for the service. This simple utility automatically maintains synchronized copies of the customer’s data in the vault for protection (and enables anywhere-access if needed). Rather than the traditional approach of making multiple full and incremental copies of the computer’s file system, it provides a continuously updated image of the selected directories in the vault (using a technique similar to asynchronous mirroring at a file level).
Restoring files or folders can be easily performed by using the restore wizard, or simply downloading files from the backup section of the vault.
Access to multiple versions.
When a changed file is synchronized with the vault, the previous version is copied into an ‘old versions’ folder to offer additional recovery options for the customer. There is a selectable version-count to help the customer manage online capacity.
Designed to be interrupted.
The backup utility actually stores data in a local area on the hard drive as a temporary cache. The underlying technology uses a single-file file system, un-identifiable from the operating system. This ‘un-attackable’ file stores any files that are changed until there’s an internet connection, then it transfers only these changed files to the vault. This implementation is ideal for users of laptop computers, which are frequently disconnected from the internet.
Simple Configuration.
The backup application uses a simple wizard for configuration. The user selects the desired directories, or maintains the default setting of protecting “my documents”, the frequency of backup is selected, and the application begins synchronizing local data with the vault as a background task.
All-in-all, the backup application provides a ‘set-and-forget’ way for your customers to protect their information from loss. You can offer your customers an all-in-one online vaulting solution, delivering data protection and convenience. And if the unimaginable situation occurs, your service will be the tool that saves the day!
