About Us

History

Digi-Data was founded in 1960 in Columbia, Maryland USA.  Since its inception, the company has successfully operated in the storage market as an innovator and developer of data protection and archival solutions.  In the early sixties, Digi-Data sold over 50,000 tape systems through OEM relationships with Compaq, HP, and Data General.  Shifting the focus to disk technologies in the late eighties, Digi-Data produced its first SCSI RAID controller for initial shipments in 1992.  It incorporated five key patents involving RAID technology which form the basis for the STORM (Storage On Redundant Modules) architecture.  The product was sold into several major accounts, including Disney, DLJ, ABC, FermiLabs, and World Bank.

Five generations of RAID controllers later, the T2000 is being sold through OEMs and Solutions Integrators throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.  The marketing focus has been geared towards supporting our partners versus driving general market awareness.  Correspondingly, the Sales focus generally positions the product below the level of Tier-1 applications, focusing on secondary storage, archive and data protection utilities.  Digi-Data also has a growing presence in the digital surveillance market, and in select government agencies.

The company

Today, the company is actively diversifying within the data protection and archive market.  With a growing set of alliances with data protection and archive companies, Digi-Data is leveraging its core technology to provide cost-effective, large scale storage solutions across various specialized applications.

In February of 2006, Digi-Data acquired bigVAULT Corporation, extending its reach into the small business arena, and providing a secure, private, internet-resident storage place for personal and business information for thousands of users.  bigVAULT is operated as a division of Digi-Data and services both Verizon and Cablevision clients; as well as customers using the service through the bigVAULT portal.

Other acquisition activity is in place to position the company with a full spectrum of storage and software products to build a complete Information and Content Management framework.

Financial Overview

Digi-Data is privately held and funded through a private foundation.  This allows management to act in the best interest of customers and partners, versus responding to the demands of Wall Street.  With approximately 40 full time employees and a handful of consultants and contractors, the company operates primarily out of the Columbia, Maryland office.  The electronic vaulting division is headquartered out of Commack, New York (bigVAULT division where a focused team of software architects and developers continue to enhance the user experience and security systems of our vaulting business.  An advanced engineering center also operates out of Louisville, Colorado (between Denver and Boulder), focused on content management solutions and integration activities.
